"Isle-of-Harris.com" is a proposed community server for the Isle of
Harris. Long term goals are to install some content management software
and have the community create the website so that it always contains
the latest news and events, photos, articles and forums etc.
Sea Harris offer Daily trips to St. Kilda and the Shiant Isles in a fast, comfortable, all seated motor cruiser with toilet facilities. St. Kilda is one of only 25 locations on the planet with dual world heritage status. If you were to go to Peru you would have to see Matchu Pitchu, similarly if you come to the Hebrides you must make a trip to St. Kilda, it is truly the most spectacular location in the Outer Hebrides.
Isle of Harris Events Calendar
The following is a beta of an Isle of Harris events calendar. If you host/run any kind of tourist related website then you can easily hook this google calendar into it allowing residents and visitors to Harris to see at a glance what the up and coming events are.
If you are an events organiser then please email murdo [at] isle-of-harris.com with the details of your google account and we'll give you full access to create your own events. This calendar will help you publicise your events and help you plan ahead to avoid your event clashing with others.
Update:
Isle of Harris
e-mail addresses now up and running with anti-virus scanning and spam
filtration, Webmail,
shared community calendar, private calendar,
shared/private task lists and notes and central LDAP
directory.
Can be used immediately with e-mail client like Outlook,
Thunderbird, Eudora, Incredimail etc but webmail still has to be
configured correctly as custom hooks into LDAP directory have to be
coded to allow users to update their passwords etc.
We've been using Isle of Harris email addresses for about a year now and are quite happy with it. It is particularly good at filtering out spam. So if you are interested in having a your-name@isle-of-harris.com
e-maill address then just send me an e-mail to
and we'll set one up for you free of charge. Its much cooler having an Isle of Harris email address rather than the standard hotmail/yahoo/gmail etc.
